Almost every weekday. And yes, I enjoy it almost all of the time. All jobs have bits that aren’t fun, but there are many more fun days than rubbish days, so it’s a good job!
I come to the lab every day but the hours that I work depend on what I’m doing. Part of my job is measuring the aerodynamics of a model in a wind tunnel. Then I usually spend the morning setting up my experiment, the afternoon conducting my experiment, and the evening looking at my results. The days when I do experiments go by very quickly for me and I won’t even notice that it’s time to go home. Because I can only run the wind tunnel during the day (it’s too noisy to do at night and not safe!), I get to work early (about 8 am) to set up and stay late (about 7 pm) to clean up when I’m done. When I’m not measuring things in my wind tunnel, I spend the day analysing my results and writing about my work or reading other people’s works. On those days I have much more normal working hours (9am-6pm) and take more breaks. My favorite days are the experiment days!
I work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. We get what’s called ‘flexi-time’ though which means that we can start work any time in the morning and finish any time in the evening. As long as we get the work that needs done completed, it’s really quite relaxed 🙂
