• Question: What is your favourite stage of jet engine combustion?

      Nice question! As you know, there are 4 stages to the engine.. the fan at the front that SUCKs the air in, the compressor that SQUEEZEs the air to make it denser and hotter, the combustor that ignites the fuel BANG! and the turbine which expands the air and BLOWs it out the back of the engine.

      My favourite is the turbine because it’s the hottest part, and we need to use really exotic materials and interesting ways to keep the turbine blades cool. These parts are also really challenging to manufacture, so as a designer, in my opinion, it’s the most interesting stage to work with. But I’m quite biased 🙂
