Certainly.
I wasn’t that much into hardcore engineering, for example, so I focused instead on human-robot interaction. I still get to play with robots a lot, but it’s also a lot about how people react to robots, what do they do with them, and so on.
My work at IBM, even though it wasn’t on anything to do with robots, required a lot of attention to detail, and that mindset translated well into what I do now.
Studying in different countries certainly had a big effect on me. If anything, it taught never to take anything for granted and question everything. You need this kind of attitude to make sure things work, but it was also a necessity for me to persevere through the culture shocks.
These are just a few examples. I am sure, many more personal experiences shape what I do every day in more subtle and often invisible ways.
