I am self-funded for now, but expect to get ~£25,000 per year after I finish my PhD. It only grows from there.

At the moment, I have a scholarship. After my PhD, I hope to get a consultancy job, which will definitely pay over £30,000 per year.

      Dear 343rbth48,

I get about £14000 a year as part of my PhD, but I don’t pay taxes on this or council tax. So my money goes on rent and food/electricity/wifi/phone/gym bills and I make enough money to support myself and my sister who is a self-funded MSc student.

Being an engineer is a great career if you want to make a lot of money, but if money is your main concern it’s better to get a job after graduation than to study a PhD!

Most of my engineering friends who have got jobs ear around £30000 a year as soon as they graduate, but I would like to be an academic one day so I decided to study a PhD.

Once you are a graduate engineer, you can study whilst you work to become a chartered engineer, which is will help you get a bigger salary as well.

Or you can do both by studying a PhD whilst you work. There are many option and no two career paths are the same 🙂

Hope this answers you questions, please ask more if it didn’t
      Siobhan 😀

The car industry is quite well paid for engineering.

As a new graduate with a good degree you can expect to find a job that pays around £25,000 – £30,000. If you do well, the pay rises are good as you gain experience quickly. With a few years experience under your belt you could be looking at a salary of £40,000 +
