• Question: what did you want to do growing up?

      I wasn’t sure all the way until the university. I decided to pursue maths as something common to all the sciences I was into. It turned out to be a very good choice in the end!

      For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be in the Army. I actually went to an Army 6th Form college and trained with the Army whilst studying my degree. However even the Army has engineers, and I was planning on working with helicopters. In my later stages of training I got injured which meant I could no longer stay in the Army… But I’m still an Engineer.

      I initially wanted to be a medical doctor (specifically a cardiologist). When I was about 10-11 years old, I realised I don’t like blood, or surgeries, or anything that a MD has to do. So I decided that I will go into sciences.

      Dear JJMM,

      I’ve always wanted to go into space. I think it’s from watching so much science fiction as a kid.

      I still do want to go to space, but I’d be happy working on a robotics project that went into space, like the mars rovers.

      I did have many other ideas when I was a kid for back-up plans such as:

      Hair and make-up artist, piano player and singer combo, beyonce and international jazz musician (I actually went to music school for a while) 🙂

      wanted to be an engineer for as long as I can remember. When I was little I loved cars & motorsport and always wanted to become a car designer.

      It’s funny because although I wanted to become an engineer, I didn’t realize how many different types of engineer there were until I started my first job when I was 18.

      I decided when I was 24 I didn’t want to be a design engineer after all and switched to working as an engineer in factories with robots. I still work with cars, but it’s a very different job.
