Our vehicle is slid down hydraulic ramp into the sea from a ship when we deploy it, when we recover it we have to use a winch to tow the vehicle back up the ramp but this is not as easy as it sounds.
In September we had a storm at sea and the vehicle needed to be recovered at the end of the day. When it is stormy the sea moves around on the water quite a lot which means the ramp moves in the water also the waves make winching and towing the vehicle very difficult as it bounces around and “surfs” the waves. I was on the controls and I had a lot of people including my bosses watching what I was doing. I had to get the vehicle back without it smashing into the ship or getting chewed up by the big propellers on the ship. To make it even harder it was night time our lights were not working properly either.
That was tense and stressful, but i did it! we got everything back safely, I was really happy and relieved
