This is a very cool question!

It’s hard to say for sure where robotics is taking us, but lots of people have lots of opinions on it 🙂

In my opinion, I think that within our lifetimes (hopefully) we will see robots take a much bigger role in society. They will be used to drive us in cars, drive our buses and trains, clean our street, clean our homes, grow our food, help us take care of our old people and our very young, guide us in public places like museums, serve us food at a restaurant and help us buy things in shops.

I think it’s very hard to imagine exactly what it could be like, but the change will be slow and we will hardly notice it at the time.

What would you like robots to do in the future?

Probably towards more automation. Factories, warehouses, construction, transport – they could all use more robotic force.

I can also imagine robots perform in theatres or dancing – just to preserve the older forms of art.

Robot surgeons operated by real people from anywhere on Earth might become a lot more common, as it would be easier to build and transport a robot than to train a surgeon.

I’d also hope we see more personal robots in everybody’s homes – you can see a little bit of this in Japan, but this year, there is a promise for a lot more of them in every country. Jibo in the USA, Buddy robot in France and more generally in Europe, a few in China – so if you follow the news about personal robots, you are likely to see a lot of them coming to the market 🙂

I think we will definitely rely more on robots. I think robots will become more and more common, and I think we do need more robots in businesses, factories, hospitals. That is because the world is developing faster every day, and I don’t think we are able to cope with everything on our own.

For example, when building things, if you need really heavy parts, a robot will be a better choice.
