      Hi Bearded Dragonz!

      Interesting question! Yes, there are systems to separate the various substances that are being transported in the pipe – conveniently called “separators”!. These are usually found on oil rigs or onshore, because it’s less hassle to do somewhere dry than in the middle of the sea.

      However, some of the most exciting developments in subsea, involve designs for subsea separators. These allow the separation to happen under the sea, which can be an attractive option is some instances – such as well the water is very deep (in the order of 2000 metres in Gulf of Mexico!).
