• Question: Do you think your job is easy?

      Hi!

      No, I think my job is quite tough a lot of the time! There are some easy bits (if the work is straightforward), but my company is a consultancy – which means that other companies pay us to solve their more challenging problems. As you might expect, these can problems can sometimes be very tough!

      As well as the technical challenge, there is also the challenge of getting things done on time (deadlines!) and on cost (budgets!). I think the combination of tough problems and deadlines/budgets can make it very difficult at times!

      But like a lot of things, the tougher something is, the greater the sense of achievement is when you finally crack it! That’s why I love engineering – it’s so rewarding when you solve the problems.

      I think my education has definitely helped me be able to do my job, so it’s not easy, but I can do it. I think some people will find they are more suited to this kind of job than others.

      Hi Elsie & Sam,

      Nooooooo….I have to say that don’t I?! Seriously the technical aspects of my work aren’t especially difficult as I have to have a broad knowledge of a lot of subjects rather than in depth knowledge, so from that aspect I get off lightly. The most difficult part of my job is trying balance a number of demanding projects and customers, It sometimes gets pretty frantic!
