      Hey 536sftb43,

I was an engineer long before I went to (and taught at) a university. So the answer to that is zero time. I learned how to program, and all the tools of my trade in my spare time as I was growing up and with some incredible luck, I am doing what I am doing today.

      Hi,

I was at University for 3 years studying a science degree. I then got a job in engineering and have recently done my Masters in Safety Engineering, which took 2 years on a part time basis whilst I was working. Hard times! I would recommend getting all your studies done before you start work!

4 years but I also took a year out before university to work in an engineering consultancy.

You can do a Bachelors degree in 3 years, but to become a chartered engineer you need to have studied for 4 years so hence why I did a Masters degree that took 4 years.

      Hi!

In Scotland, you need to study a year longer than you do in other countries in the UK. This means that it takes 4 years to obtain a bachelor of engineering (B.Eng) degree, and 5 years to obtain a master of engineering degree (MEng).

I studied for an MEng – so it took me 5 years! Quite a long time – but worth it! 😀
