      Sometimes a lot, especially when I am in the middle of doing a big design. However, the maths isn’t too complex, it mostly focusses on resolving forces and using formula to understand how the forces impact the design of my bridge.

      Other days are much more about communicating with people, sharing ideas and discussing problems. Those days tend to use very little maths.

      Hi Amar!

      I use maths nearly every day at my job in some form! When I am trying to find a solution to a problem, I need to use the principles of science… and these principles are written in the language of maths, through equations.

      The maths can be found in the form of calculations by hand, calculations in computer programs such a Microsoft Excel and MATHCAD, or within specialist software.

      In particular, finite element analysis (FEA) software performs a lot of complicated maths… but it also gives you a visual image of the problem that you are trying to solve – which helps you understand what is going on! 😀
