      Hi Kitty,

Some of the most important characteristics I look for when I’m interviewing is an ability to problem solve, to think outside the box and ultimately be enthusiastic and passionate about what they want to do. If you are looking to follow a career in engineering then I would say these are some of the key skills (aside from the usual STEM skill) which will help you on your way!

      Hi!

Hmmm… Well an engineering qualification is required to cover the technical side of things, but in terms of characteristics, I would say someone who is good with people. This includes being a good communicator, being a great team player, and being willing to help other people when required.

A technical qualification can get you your ticket to your interview – but you need to show that you are a person that can fit in well to a team environment!

At your age, I think you need to make sure you keep studying maths and science. These are essential tools in your toolbox. Then you need to enjoy problem solving, and being creative with the tools at your disposal.

I think someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and hard working is key to successful engineering.
