Question: Think of a specific engineering project when you answer this question. What could you have done to be more successful in achieving your goals?
Wow, this was a thinker! I think one of my first projects as a summer student were where I could have been more successful. It was my first time using a particular type of software called finite element analysis (FEA).
I remember that if I got stuck, I would often try to figure things out by myself for too long before asking for help. I think it was from working mostly by myself at University. There were a few occasions on that project where I should have just asked someone, and it would have made things go a little quicker!
I learned an important lesson – and that is that you should never be reluctant to ask for help! It’s always best to have a go at something yourself first, but if you reach a sticking point, then you should absolutely ask.
