I think the most exciting thing I’ve witnessed was a site visit to a fabrication yard to see an oil rig part-way through construction. It made me appreciate the scale of the structure involved, and let me see some things in real life that I usually only see on a screen in the office!
For me the most exciting engineering at the moment is Crossrail. The project is tunnelling right underneath London, through some pretty narrow gaps. It’s a huge project, and yet it is being completed on time despite all the challenges faced. I love how someone just thought up the idea one day and engineering has made it a reality.
