      Hi everyone!

To be honest, I didn’t decide to become an engineer until relatively late into my education. I think this is partly because engineering wasn’t talked about enough when I was at school – and is part of the reason I’m glad to help out by taking part in events like imanengineer now!

I knew that I liked maths, physics, communicating and being creative – and engineering seemed to tick all those boxes. I think that engineering is one of the few jobs that lets you use BOTH your science side (using maths, performing calculations) AND your creative side (designing solutions, coming up with new ways to do things better, or designing completely new things!).

      I find that it’s a great balance.

I was lucky to have a teacher that could explain what engineers do and also my Dad used to be an engineer. However for me it was the problem solving that appealed to me and being able to really make a difference in the world. Engineering is all around us and crucial to how we all live our lives. I wanted to help people and protect the planet at the same time.

I don’t think I actually ever really decided to become an engineer, It wasn’t until I was in my first job with Thales UK that I realised that i was going to become a systems engineer on their graduate programme. Unfortunately STEM and things like ‘I’m an Engineer…’ didn’t exist, but I’m glad that I am now an engineer as I think it’s a really rewarding career.
