I’ve worked all around the globe, from London to San Francisco! And as a Software Engineer, Silicon Valley in San Francisco, California is easily the hub of the technology industry 🙂
Somewhere nice and warm! I think anywhere were there is a lot of industry and focus on the particular type of engineering. For example if you wanted to be a engineer focussed on mining Australia is a pretty good place to go, like Matt says Silicon Valley for IT, F1 engineer is probably near Silverstone where all the teams HQs are etc.
In terms of the engineering side, I think Matthew and Pete have summed this up well – it depends on the industry! For the oil and gas industry, some of the more popular places to live include:
– Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
– Aberdeen (UK)
– Houston, Texas (USA)
– Perth (Australia)
– Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
– Calgary (Canada)
But I think you also have to ask some other questions around weather/culture/leisure and how long you wished to stay there to really figure out which place was the best for you.
Absolutely, dependent on what type of engineering you would like to do. However, I am really keen to go out to Australia, and they are very keen for engineers out there.
