I think being involved as a STEM Ambassador is my biggest contribution. There is a great demand for engineers in the UK, and this is set to become even greater in the near future. It could be very costly to society if we don’t manage to fill the engineering skills gap!
Hopefully by taking part in science fairs, careers fairs and events like imanengineer, I’m helping to encourage the next generation to become engineers.
Only time will time if it is successful of course, but I’m definitely willing to try!
Tough question! I don’t think I have yet made an enormous contribution to society, but through my work I have helped improve roads around the country. It’s not a big contribution, but I hope it has helped some people.
One day I hope to really make a big difference to the world, such as alleviating poverty through engineering.
I suppose my biggest contribution to society was the establishment of a charity in Wales dedicated to promoting digital literacy and encourage learning and development in a fun, friendly, safe, supportive and enjoyable environment for all ages in Wales. The charity has run a few events, but we’re still little!
Aside from that, I’d probably also say some of my work on films and TV shows probably also counts as a contribution to society by increasing the amount of time people spend on the sofa watching it 😉
I was struggling to answer this until I saw Neil’s answer and I would probably have to agree. My involvement in STEM over the past few years is easily my biggest contribution. If something isn’t done to educate the younger generation into STEM type careers then the UK could find itself very short of engineering and science skills in the not too distant future. I volunteered to get involved in STEM as I really believe that STEM careers are rewarding and interesting, and because engineering isn’t widely taught in schools it can often get overlooked.
