I think that engineering should be a subject students learn about alongside other subjects. But not just the theories practical experiments and design challenges.

I don’t think I was told much about engineering. Maybe my teachers thought it was obvious but I was really interested in Design and Technology but I didn’t see how it related to engineering! Maybe it’s got better though. I think people need to be told how many different kinds of engineering there are. It’s such a massive area.

I was never taught engineering as such.As I said multiple times, the school system in Italy is very different. The aim is to give you general tools that develop your mind in several different ways (for example, I studied philosophy alongside physics) so that you can use those skills in whatever field you like. One thing I regret is not having much practical experience. I mean, doing proper experiments to see the theory we were taught in practice.
I think school should give you broad skills and tools and not try to make you specialistis for day one. It would limit your imagination and get rid of the beauty of exploring different subjects before finding your own path. But for sure there should be more focus on showing you how practical science is and where you can find it in everyday life.
