Work History:
Originally Apprentice trained (Mechanical Engineering) then after working abroad, Middle East/North Africa/Papua New Guinea, Joined the Medical Research Council and got involved with space research to develop special equipment to study what living organisms in the space environment. This led to starting my own company, making unique cardiovascular implants: this was was very successful. After a few years, I decided to go back into research and teaching at University.

My Work
I am a Biomedical Engineer, “inventing” medical devices, particularly cardiovascular and orthopaedic implants, also finding solutions in a practical way for other engineering problems, including aerospace, automotive and manufacturing.

My Typical Day: Arrive at my office about 09.00, meet with undergraduate and postgraduate students for project supervision, lectures; sometimes spend a few hours in “therapy” which means going over to our mechanical workshops and making things!. Often, other University activities relating to courses, and administration.

What I'd do with the money
Fund outreach projects to local schools with subjects like “The Magic of Materials” “The Electric Universe” “Materials in Surgery”

What or who inspired you to follow your career?
A Meccano set when I was 6 years old !

No, I was a good boy !
