It depends. Each university has each own requirements.

It depends on what route you want to take. You can try and find an apprenticeship from 16 or 18 if you have a clear idea of where you want to work or what kind of engineering you want to do. Some of them offer time off and the funding to complete a degree part time too. At 18 is easier, once you’ve already got A levels in things like maths and physics or D&T. Or, you could choose a university course that interests you, there’s loads. For instance, to study Mechatronics (making mechanical/electronic things) you need AAA at A-level including maths! But taking civil engineering at Leeds Becket will need 120 UCAS points, which is equivalent to two Bs at A level. There’s also the Open University, so you could study at home whilst also working a completely unrelated job. Find something you’re interested in, it will give you a better idea.

Hi, there are lots of access points into to engineering. I have 1 x A Level, a Foundation Year in Engineering, which allowed me to do a degree in engineering. There are engineering apprenticeships and even degree apprenticeship. The grades depend on what course and area you would like to work in. But don’t be deterred from any career if you don’t get the grades, there are lots of ways in and plenty of people with no formal qualifications working in engineering.
