• Question: What subjects and university degrees are necessary to become a Formula 1 engineer?

      Hi,

      It depends on what job you would like to, for example if you want to be a designer, race engineer or aerodynamicist degree in Motorsport engineering will be helpful. So study, Science, Maths and English at school then a degree. If you want to be a mechanic probably better to get science, maths and English GCSE’s and A-levels and then try and get an apprenticeship or workplace experience. A lot of formula 1 people start out working in go-karting and Formula 3, getting experience and credibility.

      If you want to go to university then I suggest Automotive Engineering. A good Mechanical Engineering degree will do the job as well. The subjects really depend on what you like. The most relevant are probably vehicle dyamincs, or dynamics in general, aerodynamics, and engine related subjects (thermodynamics, design…)
