Hi Laura
Good question. I would like to build a solar cell demo kit to loan out to schools. The Royal Society of Chemistry have something called “Spectroscopy in a Suitcase” which I’ve seen used and it’s pretty cool. I’d like to do something similar so people can learn about solar power.
I’m pretty sure though that everyone here has a great idea and I’m glad someone will be getting the money to get people interested in engineering.
Hi Laura, I am sure whoever wins will use the money to help inspire the next generation of engineers. I personally want to help support a local charity called Tech For Life it introduces people of all ages, skill-sets and backgrounds to the fundamentals of computer programming, digital skills and STEAM, breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for all.
I feel that textiles in school is often thought of as being just knitting, embroidery, dress making.
We are now using textiles in top end aeronautical engineering, the automotive industry, space exploration, we are developing textiles that can monitor peoples health, textiles that can be used as a switch to answer your phone.
I would love to see textile lessons in school being more about the wider ranging applications we are now engineering.
Inspiring people in to the textiles industry to work on these possibilities would keep the art alive.
