I trained as a scientist and then went to work as a lab chemist. That job happened to be at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, where I met a whole bunch of engineers working on different projects like the Mars rovers. They seemed to be having more fun, so I started applying for space engineering jobs until I landed one. I’ve been an engineer for 13 years.

I wanted to be a scientist as I was very curious at school and kept asking questions, I really like to understand things and was good in school at physics and maths. After school I completed a degree and PhD in theoretical physics, but then when looking for jobs I wanted something that used theory and mathematics but that applied it to problems that contributed directly towards society. I saw my current job advertised by chance and went for it and applied.

I serendipitously ended up on this path. I really enjoyed electronics at school, so did an extra A-level for fun. I really enjoyed electronics at college so that for a degree.
