• Question: How hard was it to become an engineer? After you qualified as an engineer, how easy/hard was it to get a job?

      It depends what route you go down. There are many avenues into engineering, depending on what you’re good at. There are apprenticeships, if you like hands-on work and you like to focus on a specific industry, and there is University if you prefer to learn about a range of subjects first. Some University courses are harder than other to get into, it just depends really. I didn’t find it hard to get a job when I graduated as there is always a need for Engineers but I really struggled to find the right job for me. I really wanted to stay in the space industry and at that time there weren’t as many opportunities in Scotland as there are now.

      If you have the right skills and personality then it wont be too difficult as the employers will see that and they will want you to be part of the team!
      I actually didn’t qualify as an engineer, I just studied Physics and then applied after uni. No matter what you study or what job you do, you can always link certain qualities (like good team work and being driven and organised etc etc) to new jobs you want to apply for.
