I wouldn’t say boring, but there are some things that need to be done for accountability. So logging of problems, writing out investigations, and general admin work. They’re necessary, even if I need an extra coffee to finish it!

Sometimes I have to go through lists of lots of different things and compare them to other lists to make sure there are no errors. This can be a bit boring but I know it’s important and I feel good when I find a tiny mistake and that prevents it from growing into a big problem later down the line. Any sort of mistake could cost us thousands of pounds if it not found early enough, or worse, delay our mission while we fix it – so it’s important to take even the most boring tasks seriously!

General Admin is a bit dull, things like taking notes of meetings and doing monthly reports. I tend to just put some music on to get through it!

I read lots of scientific papers to see what other researchers have accomplished and find out which problems are still unanswered. These papers can be boring to read when they’re very technical and full of equations. It is important to know that my contributions are unique so that I’m not repeating something that is already known within my research area.
