I’m delighted to hear that you want to be an Engineer! We have a real shortage of Engineers in the UK so I am pleased you’re interested. My advice would be to work hard and find an area of engineering that really interests you. Don’t underestimate the need to be a good communicator (written and verbal) as some people don’t realise how important these skills are in Engineering. I only decided on engineering in my last year at high school, until then I wanted to be a primary school teacher! Until I went to NASA in Houston and met lots of amazing engineers I hadn’t even thought about it.

I actually didn’t know what an engineer was when I was at school but I think it is a cool job because there are so many different types of engineer that you can find something that you really enjoy and apply it in the real world.
My best advice is to find out what you enjoy the most and what you are good at and work on these areas. The right job will come once you have the right skills and it is always easier to be good at something if you are passionate about it 🙂
