You can do some cool things with the like of Raspberry Pi and Arduino which are cheap tiny computers. Earlier this year, British astronaut Tim Peake flew an Astro Pi in the International Space Station: https://astro-pi.org/ which is based on Rasberry Pi.

Very small computers design to interact with electronics and devices. You can plug to them pretty much anything you can imagine and program the different elements to do what you want.
