• Question: What are satellites used for?

      Lots of things! Just a few of the most important, we have:
      – Communications satellites that transmit TV, phone and radio signals, even internet data if you live in a remote place without broadband.
      – Navigation satellites, like GPS, that allow planes and cars to know where they are, and will give your phone directions when you use Google maps.
      – Meteorological satellites, we use the data they collect daily to produce the weather forecast.
      – Earth observation satellites that are used for lots of things, for example measuring pollution to monitoring fires.

    Satellites are part of daily life, used for communications, weather forecasting, navigation, observing land, sea and air, other scientific research, and military reconnaissance.
