A radioactive atom is one that spontaneously emits energetic particles or waves. This is called radiation. Radiation dose is a measurement of how much energy is deposited into a material from a source of radiation. There is natural radiation such as radon, Brazil nuts, there is medical radiation with CT scans and X-rays. And there is nuclear power which generates energy to produce electricity.
