To build a satellite, you need a structure to hold everything (like a box), some batteries (for storing the energy), small engines (for moving the satellite around), solar panels (to get energy from the sun), a payload (what you actually carry – camera, transponders for communication etc), antennas (for communication), star or sun tracker (for the position of the satellite).

      The very basics are:
      – Structure to hold all the elements together, generally have a box or cylinder shape.
      – A system to provide power to the satellite. Almost allays made of solar panels + batteries + some sort of power management and regulation unit.
      – A way to communicate to the satellite, radios.and antennas.
      – A system to control the position of the satellite in space. That is achieved by devices that tell the satellite where it is such as GNSS, star trackers or sun trackers; subsystems that allow the satellite to change its position and trajectory, propulsion systems, reaction wheels and magnetometers.
-A payload, what is the satellite carrying, camera, instruments, transponders, telescopes, etc.
