I live in Edinburgh, having moved here to do my degree in Mechanical Engineering 8 years ago and never left. With one parent having flown in the RAF I had an exposure to exciting engineering from a young age.
Since graduating I’ve had chance to work on some incredible projects, working on the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers being a definite highlight. Since then I have moved to work on the Submarine Dismantling Project, working toward a longer term sustainable solution to the final decommissioning and dismantling of the Royal Navy’s Submarine Fleet.

My Work

As a Project Engineer, my work is a mixture of project management and technical engineering. This means that in the course of my work I have worked on a variety of areas; from project controls (managing risk) to technical assessments of dockyards to writing strategy papers for the company board.
-
My Typical Day: I'm happy to say I rarely have a typical day. One day I may be helping the client to cost a design, and the next I will be supporting senior managers on project development. The best part about my day though is spending a day in the dockyard, and seeing the variety of vessels we have in, and the progress on each project change from day to day.
