I work in an aircraft mechanic shop – no, really! When aircraft breakdown and have parts that need fixed, some of them come back to us, we look at the damage and see if we can fix it – if not, we replace it with a new one.
This is for very complex products, like wheels, brakes, sensors, electronics, fire extinguishers – these sound like normal parts you would have in a car, but on aeroplanes they have to deal with high temperatures, high vibrations, high forces, so they are special pieces of equipment.

My Typical Day: I take the train to work and get there about 8am, I look at my to-do list then my emails for 30 mins and add to the to-do list! I go get a tea, then work on some of my project work or have some meetings. Sometimes I have to make presentations or write documents on my research, other times I am in the factory trying to figure out what went wrong with parts that have come back from aeroplanes
