I typically spend my time talking with civil engineers and architects about the designs of new lifeboat stations or refurbishment works that are being completed in order to house the new boats. While the construction works take place I will also visit the site at least once a month to see how the works are progressing. The projects could be anywhere from the Shetland Islands to the Channel Islands to the Republic of Ireland.
I’m currently managing two projects on the Isle of Man as well as ranging from the SW of England to the NE, Scotland and two projects based on the River Thames.

My Interview
-
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
Condition assessment, refurbishment works and site supervision of a caisson lockgate originally built in the 1950's.
What or who inspired you to follow your career?
My Grandma, she had been a draughtswoman and wasn't afraid to work in a highly male dominated industry.
What was your favourite subject at school?
Physical geography
What did you want to be after you left school?
Initially a firefighter. Around 14/15 I wanted to be an architect so did a weeks work experience to realise it was too arty for me and told engineering may be better as more maths based.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
Air traffic controller
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Hiked the Inca Trail in Peru.
