What kind of thing are you writing about them for?
If it was for a story I would write about the size using descriptive language like colossal, but I was also compare it to things, such as: as big as a bus. Also if you have characters they could say how seeing the size makes them feel, scared, or tiny or like an ant.
If it was an an engineer then we don’t use comparisons and descriptive language but instead numbers, so we would say they were 50m tall and 20m wide etc.
At work I get to go to factories with robots in them. Sometimes their bodies aren’t at all like human bodies – we have one that looks like a huge, orange arm! Some of them are really speedy and zippy, with attachments that do things like glue things together, welding and cutting.
There are all sorts of robots out there – feel free to use your imagination!
“Colossal” is a great word for describing a really big thing. What does an automon look like? Does it come in many shapes and sizes? When describing something, remember to use all our senses – what does it look like? Does it make a noise? Does it smell? If you could touch it, is it warm or cold, does it shock you like a door handle? Is it dry, or is it wet? If you could taste it – would you? Perhaps it’s covered in mud or oil, and you know you shouldn’t. It might not let you get near it either. Does it shy away from you, or does it not care if you touch it?
Do you want one that looks like a giant human? Why not a giant animal like a kangaroo or snail? Or a really small elephant?
Would it have weapons? Would it have more arms than normal, or arms with special tools on the end like a laser cutter or rotating blade?
How many eyes would it have, would they all be on the front of its head, and could they see things we can’t? Would it have ears that could hear things we can’t? Would it have really good sense of smell like a dog or shark?
How much noise would it make? Would it hover? Would it have wheels? Would it have large, clunky joints that groan or squeak? How fast can it move? Can it jump? Can it fly? Does it wiggle along the ground like a snake or a worm? Or have many legs like a centipede?
What would it be made from? Shiny silver steel metal? Dark and dull bronze? Would it be made of plastic or rubber? Would it have energy shields? Maybe it’s like a really big wooden puppet? Would it be clear like glass? Does it have a mixture of materials? Does it have jet engines like a plane? Does it have pistons like an engine?
