• Question: If you weren't a mechanical engineer, what would you be?

      I’d like to think I’d be an athlete, or – more likely at my age – a coach. I used to be a competitive swimmer, so I’m fit and used to a lot of exercise training, also, wherever there is equipment there are opportunities for development – sports engineering is a huge business – so if I wasn’t an engineer i’d be… an engineer…

      Engineering is not a job title – it’s a way of thinking. Hence anyone can ‘BE’ and engineer just by taking a thorough, methodical approach to problem solving. It doesn’t matter what problems they are; mechanical, physical, scientific, theoretical – it is all about your approach!!

      I think I would be a teacher. I enjoy passing on knowledge to young people.

      If I wasn’t a Mechanical Engineer, I would of like to of been involved with car racing and testing. Something involved with motorsport for definitely.

    I think I would have been a writer, or a journalist. I always loved writing, but I managed to keep my passion for writing in engineering, and I volunteered to write engineering articles for some organisations.

    I’ve always had a passion for houses and the way buildings are constructed/designed. I think i would be an architect is i wasn’t an engineer. But i guess architects are a type of engineer anyway!

    Back in high school I was divided in between studying biology (or microbiology) and mechanical engineering and choose engineering.
