The easiest part of engineering is probably enjoying it!! It is such a varied field, with so many different roles and responsibilities, you’re bound to find something you enjoy. Whether this is in the automotive, aerospace, civil or energy sector to name a few!
The hardest part of engineering is keeping up with all the technological developments. To have the best solutions you really have to keep up with researching the newest software’s, materials and processes! It is important to take an interest outside of work to make sure you are up to date!!
The IMECHE are great for this, they send out newsletters and facilitate talks on the newest engineering developments.
For me, the easiest part is when I’m taking simple field measurements, which often results in little more than sitting around in the sun making a few minor notes, letting the equipment do its thing.
The hardest part for me is managing workload. It’s regularly a problem that I have too much to do and not enough time, but also regularly a problem that all my projects finish at once and then I’m struggling to find something productive to do. Such is the life of a consultant.
I don’t think any part of engineering is easy, although some parts are easier than others. For me, the easiest part is navigating the 3D CAD software I use daily as I have had many years of practice I know what I am doing. The most difficult is designing and implementing new designs and products in a very short timeframe from design concepts to a finished product, not so easy at all!
For me, the easiest part is finding the motivation to get started, there are weeks when it is hard work or doesn’t seem like the most fun but there’s always something new coming or a new thing to learn that keeps me going.
The hardest is probably dealing with set-backs. It’s impossible to go through a career making the best possible decisions and never making mistakes so dealing with the inevitable failures can be hard.
For me the easiest is being motivated for all the learning and all the projects you get to work on because they’re always so interesting, but the hardest is staying up to date with the new technologies and innovations. Engineering is such a massive world that is evolving on a daily basis and it’s very hard to keep up with all of it, even if it’s only in your field.
For me, I’d say the easiest part is testing electronics. It mainly involves just following a simple procedure so it’s fairly straightforward even though it can be long at times.
I’d say the hardest part getting people to do things for you. You have to keep chasing them up which can be annoying at times.

Since engineering is in so many catergories what’s the aim to achieve in all of them?
