My Work
I’m a marine engineer so I work at sea and on the docks to keep ships sailing.
-
My Typical Day: No day is typical because it depends what needs fixing!

I might be at sea doing routine maintenance (in the engine room working on the generators or the ships engine, up the mast changing lightbulbs, fixing the oven in the galley or anything!). We could be sailing any where in the world too!
Or, I might be in the docks managing a team of people to do a complete re-fit of a ship ready for the next season (structural repair, new components, speed testing, bearing changes…..)
Or, I might be at home studying my second masters degree in Marine Engineering (for fun).
Although, at this very moment I’m mostly changing smelling nappies because I have just had a baby!

What I'd do with the money
Send two pupils for a day sail on a tall ship to experience marine engineering in action!

To do this I would use the money to sponsor two day voyages with one of my old employers (a charity) called the Jubilee Sailing Trust. The pupils would ideally be from different schools and the only catch is that they must be over 12 years old. (JST is able to take pupils in wheelchairs or with any other physical disability onboard to sail….In fact it is what they do best!) By doing this I would hope that the pupils would learn the value of team work (because you can’t put the sail up by yourself!) and increase in confidence through pushing there own limits. I would hope that they would present their experience back to their school to share it with their class mates.
