Engineering is used in the study of bio-mechanics which is the study of how living things move. There are engineers studying the movement of animals because sometimes it gives us clues on how to duplicate them for artificial movement such as used in robotics.
It’s an amazing fact that nothing designs as efficiently as nature, and there’s lots of natural structures that we are copying in design because they’re so clever.
On a similar track there have been quite a few stories lately about 3D printed prosthetics for animals that have suffered loss of legs. Those prosthetics need to be engineered so you could specialise in designing and engineering things that help the animal world.
(I knew I could connect the two eventually, I just needed some time to think about it that I didn’t have during the chat! 🙂 )
That sounds like a really interesting combination!
The closest thing I can think of is Biomedical Engineering, these Engineers use scientific principles to develop products and technology for healthcare in both Humans and Animals.
Maybe you could become the world’s first Veterinary Engineer?
