Most definately! I will try to keep it short cause I think I burned the keybord today! haha 🙂
Building an aircraft is a massive task, so I am doing just a chunck of it but without flying it would be hard for us to leave this great island of UK. You could suggest that we could use ships but can you imagine how long would it take to go and visit Australia? Weeks if not Months! So flying enables us to go and visit those lovely places in a matter of a few hour flight (well maybe slightly longer if you are travelling to Australia). On the other note it contributes to the growth of the economy as many businessmen travel by air for meetings around the world. It would not be possible without the air transport.
🙂
Certainly,by making our engines more reliable I can reduce the number of planes which get delayed because of break downs, making sure that people get to their destinations on time. It also helps reduce the impact on the environment by cutting down on wasted materials and energy by making sure the engine can fly for as long as possible without a service.
I’m hoping to show students what 3D printing can do so that they go on to discover lots of exciting opportunities that will have an impact on everyone’s lives.
In the meantime the prosthetic hands I’ve printed definitely have a very positive impact on the lives of those who need them.
Most definitely! I’ll keep this answer simple 😛 There are 3 different sectors in my work:
1. Civil Engineering: The design and construction of Bridges, Highways, Railways, Power Plants, Train Stations, Airports.
2. Building: The design and construction of Houses, Schools/Universities, Hospitals, Multi-storey car parks.
3. Facilities: The maintenance of these structures, e.g. lighting, elevators, A/C units.
Not only does designing and building these structures mean we are building the skeleton, we are also responsible for ensuring the correct services are installed (running water, heating, lighting etc.)
So Kieran, try to imagine a life without all the listed things above, and its probably quite difficult! Look around you! Everything in the building you are sitting in has been designed and constructed, so it effects your everyday life… And pretty much everyone elses! 😀
