• Question: Does your Digital Footprint affect your chance of a job, and did it affect yours?

      Yes, I would say so, and I’m pretty conscious of it. I don’t think it personally affected me when I came to getting my job, but I believe that you should be aware of what anyone can see on the internet.

      After I left school I realised that if I was follow a well-respected career path then I would have to look employable on social networking. I deleted a lot of things, and I’m a pretty normal teenager, so examples of these were some photos from parties and some of my grumpy tweets.

      I’ve become a lot more private with my social networking, and of course, Timehop brings up some pretty embarrassing things that are still there… I just hope no-one goes back 5 years on my Facebook 😛

      In my day we didn’t have a Digital Footprint (that instantly makes me sound old doesn’t it?). I only really got into Twitter 12 months ago when I set up business working for myself and I went on a course that explained how important social media is in business today.

      So at the moment I think my Digital Footprint is still very small as I’m still in “toddlers shoes”. For you guys it will be different because you’ve grown up with the internet and social media all around you.

      All I would say is to always behave online as if the people are sitting next to you, and don’t say things that you wouldn’t be prepared to say to their face. And count to ten before you raise up to anyone who’s trying to provoke a reaction from you.
