Question: So guys I was wondering if it is a rewarding job as I feel
it could be but I want to know from someone from actually in the field of engineering. thank you
Engineering is rewarding because you get to make things and you then get to tell people “I (or my engineering team) made that”. When I worked for Jaguar Land Rover I could point to cars in the street and say and show people what parts of the car I was involved with the engineering.
If you were wondering about financial reward, then engineering pay is rising because of the shortage of engineers coming through the system and the fact that it is becoming more respected as a professional career.
If you reach a Project Leader level (which is where I was at JLR) then you can get paid a very good salary.
Very rewarding. Knowing that something you did fixed a problem.
Had a situation in the Falkland Islands where there was not a spare component for skin repair bracket to a helicopter. It could not fly and was grounded. So I made a 3rd angle projection drawn to scale from the broken part and only had a pencil and 12″ rule. This was sent to workshops where it was made locally and helicopter was flying again within 12 hrs. Now that was rewarding. It is what you make it. 🙂
Working as an Engineer is one of the most rewarding parts of my life, getting to see our products flying and performing incredible feats is always amazing. I also get to spend time talking to young people like yourself and encouraging them to aim higher and that is a great pleasure for me.
It is very rewarding! Engineering is all about creating new things! It involves a lot of work during the process but when it’s done – it is the best feeling ever! Working for Airbus and seeing an aircraft flying for the first time (after years of development) – words can’t expalin what you feel! It’s priceless! 🙂 And the best part of it is the feeling that you contributed to this success – it is amazing!
