I most enjoy seeing things come to life from a drawing to the real form! Getting to see how each and every part of a building is important. Consistent learning is the trick here… you can never know too much in the construction industry – there’s a different thing to be learning every minute!
Because a large part of my job at the moment is making sure everything is correct, sometimes I have to tell people that the work they’ve done is wrong and they have to start again! This is my least favourite because sometimes it makes me feel mean… but it’s all to make sure the buildings you’re sitting in right now stay standing!

Hi, this is Ray.
‘What do I enjoy the most about engineering?’ It is the chance to work with new technology, to understand how it works and how it could be improved. I also like to understand the design of this technology. However, not all engineeering is new technology and having the understanding to determine why and how something is deteriorating / failing and being able to do something about it is satisfying.
‘The least attractive’ sometimes where the equipment is! Not all engineering equipment is indoors; or very clean. -

I’ve always loved creating and making things – and that’s what engineering’s all about. So why not do a job that involves something that you love doing? I was always interested in cars, so creating and making cars was a logical career choice for me.
I believe that as an engineer you should see yourself as an Applied Scientist. After all, what you are doing on a day to day basis is taking scientific principles and applying them, sometimes in new ways, to the engineering project that you’re working on.
What do I like least – easy, the mountain of paperwork (or more often computer-based administration) that goes with doing anything these days!

As with the other answers here the best thing about Engineering for me is that you get to take the design, the theory, the physics and the maths and then use it to create something real which you can touch and hold. More often than not those products are beyond extraordinary and that’s what make engineering so exciting.
My least favourite part of the job is the bureaucracy and the regulations we have to work with, which are coincidently very important to ensure we do the job right. However they can slow things down, sometime it just means we have to me more creative about the way we do things to ensure they happen at the right pace.

Gosha Barzowska answered on 9 Mar 2015:
It’s simple – Engineering is a useful application of all STEM subjects (Sience, Technology and Maths) which link together to create ‘Engineering’! It’s an exciting field of Sience where an application of Maths creates new Technologies that enable Engineering. It’s about creation of new things that I enjoy the most! Getting your creativity going wild is very exiting! I will agree with Huw on the least favourite part of the Engineers job is paperwork.
