In research and engineering collaboration is very important. I would also say that competition is good for innovation e.g. creating new products or services to solve problems in society. Competition has often caused disruptions that have been beneficial for society.

Yes… but only because someone has to like them! 😀

In the world of science we’re all working together, if someone challenges your idea it is generally a good thing for science.

Its funny actually, because there was someone who did a similar PhD to mine who started a year earlier than me, and I was always comparing myself to them, but then I realised that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others because it doesn’t quite work like that..

Collaboration is really important, and I will get along with anyone and everyone, so although we may be competing in a sense, its all for the greater good of scientific advancement, and for that reason, I don’t dislike any of them!! We actually get along really well now haha.

I think just because you’re competing against someone it doesn’t mean you can’t like them (even if they beat you). All the other engineers are doing really great work and I wish them all the best for their research and in this competition 🙂
