Since university I’ve always worked as an Engineer. Before that I did lots of work experience placements and had a few part-time jobs. For work experience I worked at a stock brokers, solicitors, and in a IT firm. As part-time work I’ve worked as a waitress, bar staff, at waitrose and at superdrug.
Yes, before being a researcher in the UK, I worked in Mexico trying to develop technology for the National Institute of Rehabilitation. I worked there for 1.5 years, until I decided to do my PhD in Glasgow.
I’ll jump on this one too!
I’ve worked in a call centre for a loan broker company, a sports shop, a carer, a ventilation company, a broadband technical support role, and then in the lab since then! Started as a lab technician in a biotechnology company, then was Research and Development Scientist, and now the PhD! I want to have my own research group one day, and I’d love to stay in this field!
My current job (Materials Engineer in Prosthetics) is my first proper real job as an engineer.
I did have a short internship working in the Quality Control lab of a company that manufactures Roofing Tiles for houses and buildings. It was quite cool because I got to see the production line (imagine mud/clay being turned into tiles that will keep you warm and dry from the rain and bad weather) and I was quite hands-on in quality checks techniques.
Whilst I was in University I worked in a couple of shops part-time: one was Decathlon (selling sports-wear, watches and nutrition goods) and also in a Petro Station, working at the till.
I have also worked in the equivalent of the BBC in Spain (RTVE). I was working as a production assistant in the dubbing department. I did this for two summers.
