In my masters i developed a’ lab on a chip’ that was used to grow 2 different types of bone cells to see how they communicate and respond to drugs.
In my current project i make scaffolds for kidney cells to grow on, and a 3D printed bioreactor for them to grow in to see how they respond to different environments.
I have done a project where i freeze a polymer solution to create scaffolds with pores in one direction, getting some really interesting structures.
I’ve got a project using new techniques to create a scaffold for the ligaments of the knee.
I’ve also got a project using trying to use a 3D printer to print a new type of scaffold, which could have many applications.
1. 3D printing of bone implants
2. Making new products that contain antimicrobials to kill bacteria
3. Comparing how healthy and osteoarthritic bone/cartilage response to different loads
4. Making a new material to help regenerate bone
5. Designing new ways to control insulin levels in diabetic patients
6. Finding a way to deliver a chemical that is capable of dissolving a pathological (or bad type) of bone that forms in soft tissue
That’s about it for now but there are some other things in the pipe line… I like to keep busy 🙂
