Create a virtual reality app on to be used on google cardboard or the equivalent. Here, you the user would be able to go through similar steps to a surgeon when they are carrying out a hip replacement surgery. I’d point out all the engineering that goes into the process along the way too.
I would love to create a workshop or online website to teach Materials Engineering using baking. I love explaining what I do whilst talking about cupcakes!!! Everything just makes more sense and Materials is a great subject!
I have done a lot of public engagement, going in to schools and taking a human-sized ‘operation’ game, maggot racing, cell designing and so on, which is great, so I would use the money to develop my own activities and deliver them in schools to encourage the sciences for everyone! Its great fun!
I am looking to donate to a local STEM school club for them to invest in something to inspire future engineers. Perhaps a 3D printer so they can create their own designs and learn some engineering principles.
I’d use the money to make some games to help students learn more about how our bodies work and also about how to fix them.
I’m thinking some big puzzles of different types of tissue that you have to put together in the quickest time possible. A microscope that we can take into schools so students can look at bits of the body up close. And finally, to buy some polymer materials that students can try to make some injectable systems with the aim of delivering cells/drugs
Excellent question! I would love to use the money towards a workshop where students such as yourself would have the opportunity of seeing how the human body works and how the prosthetic hands move! Maybe connecting it to some of the attendants (it doesn’t hurt!)
