• Question: what is it like to work as and engineer?

      It’s good fun and really rewarding but can be difficult and stressful. Engineering is all about solving problems, so I really enjoy it because of that. When you’ve found a solution to one of the problems, it’s a really satisfying feeling knowing you’ve helped to solve the problem and keep people safe.

      It can be difficult and stressful if there’s lots of deadlines coming up, as the work has to be completed quickly, but still be accurate. This can be quite stressful, but once the solution is achieved, it’s really rewarding!

      I think it’s quite a good job to be doing. A lot of engineering aims to make the world a slightly better place so on the rights projects it can be rewarding. Sometimes I wish there was more design, problem-solving, and creativity, but less paperwork (making sure everything has been checked and meets the project requirements).

      I think most engineering jobs allow for a good ‘work-life balance’ so whilst you may work 9-5 each week day, you have evenings and weekends to spend how you like.

      There are so many different engineering jobs so I think there will be a lot of different experiences out there.
      However, my experience has been that you need to be good at thinking outside of the box – how can you fix or solve problems in a timely, safe and cost effective way. Often myself and my team will get around a table and brain storm ideas and someone will write them down. We will then pick the best sounding options by running through the pros and cons of each one and then investigate how we can implement the solutions and how much money and time they will cost.
      It really is an interesting job and you get to work with some really smart people who want everyone to succeed as a team, and no two days are the same!

      it is a most interesting career full of challenges and rewards. As an Engineer i have been in full employment for 50 years and still enjoying my work. I enjoy working on problems and coming up with solutions.

      It’s really interesting, every project is different and there are always some very exciting projects out there to work on. It’s also a rewarding career, both financially and when you see something you create make a difference to people.
      It does have it’s downsides, it can be stressful and require you to work long hours, only sometimes though.
