Hi,
Apart from minor electric shocks when I was building things years ago, my jobs is pretty safe. Outside of work the most scared I’ve been is probably mountain climbing on ice in the Alps – if that had gone wrong it was a long way down.
When I used to work on the railway I was in dangerous environments quite often – trying to get around with trains moving at up to 125 miles per hour can be risky! Thankfully there are rules and procedures put in place to keep these risks at a minimum. Most workplaces have rules like these that depend on the risks involved – like Rik’s electric shocks. Our lab has rules on what you can and can’t do without someone else there to provide help if something goes wrong, and also if we need to do field work we need to review what dangers it can pose to us.
In answer to your question I once saw a train nearly hit one of my work group – I reported it to the safety & environment team and together we worked on ways to prevent teams getting into the same situation again.
