For cancer to start, there are changes to the genes of a cell or cells. Normally, genes make sure that cells behave as they should, growing normally. When cells divide, there can be a mutation where the gene is damaged. This damage can mean that the gene doesn’t control the cell properly – there have to be about a dozen rounds of mutation before a cell becomes cancerous.
Cancerous cells are ‘immortal’ to the body – your body can’t kill them. They create their own blood supply and eventually move to other arts of the body.
