In the medical space, you could work on projects that create instruments to help doctors and surgeons diagnose and treat people. You can also make a difference in all other fields of engineering. There is engineering in pretty much everything, you just have to look closely enough.
Sylvain is right- you can make a difference in any field of engineering!
All of us here in the Diagnosis Zone work towards better human health, but there’s loads of other areas you can help in.
If you care about the environment & climate change, you could help design eco-friendly buildings in Civil Engineering, or help make cheaper electric cars in Automotive Engineering, or make better solar cells in Materials Engineering.
Or you could help design new inventions in Mechanical Engineering to let us better understand the world around us, like spacecraft or exploration robots. Or you could even design better water systems or farming systems, so that more people around the world have access to clean water, and don’t have to go hungry.
As Sylvain says, there is engineering in pretty much everything! So you can make a difference to lots of things. Working in bioengineering, I get to make a difference to healthcare which is why I love my job so much 🙂
The list of things you could make a difference to are endless – there are a lot of engineers working on renewable energy right now, some working on driverless cars, and even some working at NASA!
That is up to you, really. Each branch of engineering is associated with its own applications. I work on the clinical and biomedical applications. Computer engineering could be applicable in handling and processing big data. Mechanical engineering in automobiles and civil engineering in constructions. The big picture is that You get to develop/implement/design something that could be utmost use to people and might lead to their betterment
With engineering, you are literally taking science and using it to solve real problems in the world. With hard work and a bit of luck, you could make almost any difference in the world you choose! Health, space, environmental… you can do it all!
